What city is home to BMW's global headquarters?

The story behind the answer

BMW’s global headquarters are in Munich, Germany.

The headquarters complex is centered on the BMW Headquarters tower in Munich’s Am Riesenfeld district, beside the Olympic Park and BMW’s main Munich factory. BMW has maintained its headquarters at this location since the early 1970s, making Munich the company’s internationally recognized home.

The distinctive tower was designed by Austrian architect Karl Schwanzer and built between 1968 and 1972. Its four suspended cylindrical sections evoke the cylinders of a car engine. The building stands about 101 meters tall and was inaugurated on May 18, 1973.

Frankfurt is Germany’s major financial center, Stuttgart is strongly associated with Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, and Berlin is the national capital, but none is BMW’s global headquarters city. The nearby BMW Museum opened in 1973, while BMW Welt opened across the road in 2007.
