What CinemaScore grade did audiences give Avatar: Fire and Ash?

The story behind the answer

Audiences gave Avatar: Fire and Ash an A CinemaScore. CinemaScore’s letter grades come from surveys of moviegoers leaving opening-day screenings, so the result measures immediate audience satisfaction rather than critics’ reviews or an online user score.

The A grade matched the CinemaScore results for both earlier Avatar films, Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water. That made Fire and Ash part of a rare blockbuster trilogy whose entries received the same strong audience mark, despite differences in story, length, and critical reception.

CinemaScore is also easy to confuse with other audience measurements. Rotten Tomatoes’ audience percentage, PostTrak’s recommendation figures, and star ratings use different methods and scales. An A CinemaScore therefore does not mean the film received an A+ or that every viewer rated it identically; it is the reported average grade from the survey.

The result helped explain the film’s strong word of mouth during its holiday theatrical run, even though its opening weekend was lower than The Way of Water’s.
