A Catholic Mass is the religious service commonly associated with a traditional quinceañera.
Many Catholic families begin the celebration with a Misa de Acción de Gracias, or Thanksgiving Mass. During the service, the quinceañera may receive a blessing, offer thanks for her life, and pray for guidance as she enters a new stage of life.
The Mass is not universal. Some families hold a secular celebration, while others belong to different Christian denominations or another faith. Even within Catholic communities, local parishes may have their own requirements for preparation, participation, and scheduling.
The religious service is distinct from the reception. The Mass is a worship service, while the reception is the social celebration that may follow with food, music, dancing, speeches, and symbolic gifts.
