What category is Pikachu given in the Pokémon Pokédex?

Pikachu is categorized as the Mouse Pokémon.

The category appears in Pokédex descriptions and refers to Pikachu’s small rodent-like design. Pikachu is also an Electric-type Pokémon, but “Electric” describes its type rather than its Pokédex category.

Pikachu was designed by Atsuko Nishida and finalized by Ken Sugimori. Its yellow body, red cheek pouches, and lightning-bolt-shaped tail made it visually distinctive among the original Pokémon.

The anime made Pikachu the franchise mascot by giving it to Ash Ketchum instead of using one of the three original game starters. Pikachu’s prominence helped make it one of the most recognizable fictional characters associated with video games.
