The camera-based suspension system that debuted on the Mercedes-Benz W222 S-Class was Magic Body Control.

Magic Body Control was Mercedes-Benz’s name for an updated version of its Active Body Control suspension paired with a forward-looking road-sensing system. Windshield-mounted stereo cameras scanned the road ahead for bumps, potholes and uneven surfaces before the car reached them.

The system, marketed as Road Surface Scan, could identify changes in the road and prepare the suspension’s damping at each wheel. That predictive approach differed from conventional systems that mainly reacted after the vehicle encountered an imperfection. It was offered on selected high-end W222 versions rather than every S-Class model.

Distronic Plus was a driver-assistance system for maintaining distance and assisting with steering, not a suspension system. Airmatic refers to Mercedes’ air suspension family, while Active Body Control was the underlying hydropneumatic suspension technology. Magic Body Control specifically describes the camera-assisted predictive system introduced with the W222 generation.
