What building was renamed Independence Hall after hosting the Declaration debate?

The story behind the answer

The Pennsylvania State House was renamed Independence Hall after hosting the Declaration debate.

The building stood in Philadelphia and served as the meeting place of the Second Continental Congress. Delegates debated and adopted the Declaration of Independence there in 1776, then returned to the same building for the Constitutional Convention in 1787.

The structure was completed in 1753 as the Pennsylvania State House. Its central tower once held the Liberty Bell, which became associated with the independence movement and later with American ideals of liberty. The building acquired the name Independence Hall during the nineteenth century.

Independence Hall is sometimes confused with Carpenters’ Hall, which hosted the First Continental Congress in 1774. The two historic buildings are both in Philadelphia, but they served different congresses. Independence Hall is also distinct from the National Archives, where the engrossed Declaration is displayed today.
