What building, now called Independence Hall, hosted the 1776 adoption commemorated by America250?

The story behind the answer

The building now called Independence Hall hosted the 1776 adoption of the Declaration as the Pennsylvania State House.

Located in Philadelphia, the building was completed in 1753 for Pennsylvania’s colonial legislature. The Second Continental Congress used it during the Revolutionary War, including when it adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

The same building later hosted the Constitutional Convention in 1787. Delegates debated and signed the United States Constitution there, giving the site a rare connection to both the country’s declaration of independence and its governing framework.

“Independence Hall” became the building’s familiar name because of its Revolutionary-era history. Federal Hall in New York City hosted the first U.S. Congress under the Constitution, while the Old State House in Boston and Carpenter’s Hall in Philadelphia were important colonial meeting places but not the correct answer here.
