The British carbonated lemonade brand first made by Robert and Mary White was R. White's.
Robert and Mary White began selling homemade ginger beer from a wheelbarrow in Camberwell, south London, in 1845. Their business later concentrated on lemonade, and the wheelbarrow became a lasting symbol of the brand’s origins. The White family expanded through production sites and regional depots before incorporating R. White & Sons in 1894.
R. White’s is sometimes confused with Britvic because Britvic produces and sells the brand today. Ownership and manufacturing history changed several times: Whitbread acquired the business in 1969, and the brand eventually became part of Britvic. Its famous “Secret Lemonade Drinker” advertising campaign began in 1973 and became one of Britain’s best-known soft-drink commercials.
