What bay did Henry Hudson explore in 1610 while seeking a route to Asia?

The story behind the answer

Henry Hudson explored Hudson Bay in 1610 while seeking a sea route to Asia.

Hudson’s fourth major voyage began in England in 1610 aboard the ship Discovery. Sponsored by the Virginia Company and the British East India Company, the expedition searched for a Northwest Passage through or around North America. After crossing the North Atlantic and reaching the Hudson Strait, Hudson’s crew entered the enormous inland sea now called Hudson Bay on 2 August 1610.

The explorers believed they had found a route through the continent to the Pacific and Asia. Hudson spent the following months charting parts of the bay’s eastern shore, but no passage westward appeared. Ice trapped the Discovery in James Bay for the winter, forcing the crew to live through severe conditions with limited food.

The voyage ended in conflict. When the ship was finally able to sail in 1611, the crew mutinied and set Hudson, his teenage son, and several others adrift in a small boat. They were never seen again. Baffin Bay lies farther north, while Fundy and Chesapeake bays are on the Atlantic coast.
