What Argentine town is the primary gateway to the Perito Moreno Glacier?
Answer
El Calafate
Answer
El Calafate
The Argentine town that serves as the primary gateway to the Perito Moreno Glacier is El Calafate.
El Calafate sits on the southern shore of Lake Argentino in Santa Cruz Province, roughly เฉ80 kilometres from the glacier by road. It is the nearest significant town and the practical base for most visitors entering the southern sector of Los Glaciares National Park.
The town provides hotels, restaurants, tour operators, equipment rentals, boat excursions and transport along the road to the glacier. Its international airport also makes it the usual arrival point for travellers coming from Buenos Aires and other destinations in Argentina. From El Calafate, visitors can reach the glacier’s viewing walkways, embark on lake cruises or join guided ice-trekking trips.
Ushuaia is another famous Patagonian tourist centre, but it lies in Tierra del Fuego and is not the normal access point for Perito Moreno. Puerto Natales is a major base for Torres del Paine in Chile, while Río Gallegos is farther away and functions mainly as a regional transport hub. El Calafate’s growth accelerated after improved roads and tourism development connected it with the national park.
