What are the regional variants introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon called?
Answer
Alolan Forms
Answer
Alolan Forms
The regional variants introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon are called Alolan Forms. They represent Pokémon adapted to the tropical Alola region’s distinct environments and microclimates.
Alolan Forms can differ from their original counterparts in appearance, typing, abilities, and sometimes battle roles. Examples include Alolan Vulpix, which is Ice-type, and Alolan Exeggutor, which gains the Grass/Dragon typing.
The feature allowed familiar Generation I Pokémon to receive new designs while remaining recognizable. Sun and Moon also introduced entirely new species, so Alolan Forms are alternate regional versions rather than separate new Pokédex species.
Later games used different regional names. Galarian Forms appeared in Pokémon Sword and Shield, Hisuian Forms in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and Paldean Forms in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Those names should not be substituted for the Alola-specific term.
