What are the colors of Lithuania's flag from top to bottom?

Lithuania’s flag is yellow, green and red from top to bottom.

The three horizontal bands are equal in height. Yellow traditionally represents the sun, prosperity and light; green evokes Lithuania’s forests, countryside, liberty and hope; red signifies bravery and the blood of those who fought or died for the country. These symbolic meanings were formally associated with the flag after its design was established.

The tricolour was adopted on 25 April 1918, during Lithuania’s first period of independence. Soviet occupation later replaced it with Lithuanian SSR designs. The yellow-green-red flag was restored on 18 November 1988, before independence was re-established in 1990. Its official proportions changed from 1:2 to 3:5 in 2004.

A common mix-up is confusing Lithuania’s tricolour with the historical state flag, which displays the mounted knight Vytis. The national flag is the plain horizontal tricolour, while the Vytis banner is a separate state and historical symbol.
