What are black and white bears from China called?

Black-and-white bears from China are called pandas, more precisely giant pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca).

The giant panda is a true bear native to China, not a raccoon or a separate bear-like mammal. Its famous black-and-white coat, rounded body and bamboo-based diet make it one of the world's most recognizable animals. Wild pandas live mainly in cool, mountainous bamboo forests in central China, especially in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces.

Pandas are classified in the bear family, Ursidae, but their diet is unusual: bamboo makes up most of what they eat even though their digestive system remains that of a carnivore. They compensate by eating for many hours each day. A common mix-up is the red panda, which is a different species and belongs to its own family. In ordinary conversation, “panda” usually means the giant panda, while “giant panda” is the more scientifically precise name.
