What arachnid order contains scorpions?
Answer
Scorpiones
Answer
Scorpiones
The arachnid order containing scorpions is Scorpiones.
Scorpiones includes all living scorpions, recognizable arachnids with eight legs, grasping pedipalps, and a segmented tail ending in a venomous stinger. They are predators that commonly use their pincers to seize prey, while the stinger serves mainly for defense and subduing prey.
Scorpions have a remarkably ancient history. Their lineage extends back to the Silurian Period, about 430 million years ago, making them older than the dinosaurs. Today they occupy deserts, grasslands, forests, and other habitats on every continent except Antarctica. More than 2,500 living species have been described.
Scorpiones is separate from Araneae, the order of spiders, and from Opiliones, the order containing harvestmen. Ricinulei is another distinct arachnid order. Although scorpions are often associated with deserts, many species live in humid tropical environments, and their global distribution shows that the group is ecologically broader than the stereotype suggests.
