What anniversary does Colorado celebrate alongside America250 in 2026?

Colorado celebrates its 150th anniversary alongside America250 in 2026.

Colorado entered the Union as the 38th state on August 1, 1876. Because 2026 is 150 years after statehood, Colorado’s sesquicentennial coincides with the United States’ semiquincentennial.

The state created the America 250–Colorado 150 Commission to coordinate the twin commemorations. The commission was established through Colorado state action, and History Colorado hosts it.

The two anniversaries measure different milestones. America250 marks 250 years since the 1776 Declaration of Independence, while Colorado 150 marks 150 years since Colorado became a state. The nickname “Centennial State” comes from Colorado’s admission to the Union in the centennial year of American independence.
