What animal can be described as a wild pig from Africa?

A warthog is a wild pig from Africa. The name commonly refers to the common warthog, Phacochoerus africanus, a member of the pig family found across much of sub-Saharan Africa.

Warthogs live in savannas, grasslands, woodlands, and fairly dry regions. Their large heads, curved tusks, sparse hair, and facial wattles give them a distinctive appearance. The “warts” in their name are thickened areas of skin that help protect the face during fights, rather than true warts.

They mainly graze on grasses and other vegetation, often kneeling on their front legs while feeding. Despite their fearsome tusks, warthogs are not predators. A common mix-up is confusing them with wild boars or bushpigs; all are pigs, but warthogs are African members of the genus Phacochoerus.
