Ford built the Model A, introduced in 1927 as the successor to the Model T. It was Ford Motor Company’s attempt to replace an aging design that had dominated American roads for nearly two decades.
The Model A entered production on October 20, 1927, and was publicly introduced on December 2. Unlike the Model T, it offered features such as a conventional three-speed transmission, hydraulic shock absorbers, four-wheel mechanical brakes, and a more powerful 3.3-liter four-cylinder engine. Customers could choose from many body styles and colors.
Ford sold about 4.86 million Model As before production ended in March 1932. The car is sometimes confused with the earlier Ford Model A produced in 1903–1904, but the 1927 car was a completely different design. Its successors included the Model B and the V8-powered Model 18.
