What actor played Ben in "Fever Pitch"?

The story behind the answer

The actor who played Ben in Fever Pitch was Jimmy Fallon.

Fallon played Ben Wrightman in the 2005 American romantic comedy Fever Pitch, directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly. Ben is an elementary-school teacher and devoted Boston Red Sox fan whose intense attachment to baseball complicates his relationship with Lindsey Meeks, played by Drew Barrymore. The film is based on Nick Hornby’s 1992 memoir Fever Pitch and remakes the 1997 British film, in which Colin Firth played the central character.

The American version gained an unusual real-life ending. Production was underway during the 2004 baseball season, when the Red Sox unexpectedly won the World Series and ended an 86-year championship drought. Cameras captured Fallon and Barrymore celebrating the final victory at Fenway Park, and the filmmakers incorporated that footage into the movie.

The title can cause confusion because Fever Pitch is also the name of the British original and Hornby’s book. In North America, the 2005 film was also marketed internationally under the title The Perfect Catch.
