What 53-track covers album marked the 30th anniversary of Metallica's The Black Album?

The Metallica Blacklist marked the 30th anniversary of Metallica's The Black Album.

Released on September 10, 2021, The Metallica Blacklist is a 53-track collection of covers of songs from Metallica. More than 50 artists contributed versions in widely varied styles, turning the anniversary project into a large-scale reinterpretation of the original album rather than a conventional remaster.

The collection included artists from rock, pop, hip-hop, country, and other scenes. Each contributor selected a Black Album song to reinterpret, so the project connected Metallica's catalog with musicians who did not necessarily work within heavy metal.

The anniversary campaign also included a remastered edition of Metallica and an expanded box set released on the same date. Proceeds from The Metallica Blacklist went to Metallica's All Within My Hands Foundation and charities selected by participating artists. The project is distinct from Garage Inc., Metallica's 1998 album of cover songs, because The Metallica Blacklist focuses on outside artists covering Metallica's 1991 material.
