Answer
The Institute
The 2019 Stephen King novel about children held at a secret facility is The Institute.
The story follows Luke Ellis, a twelve-year-old prodigy with mild telekinetic abilities. After intruders murder his parents, Luke is kidnapped and awakens in a hidden facility deep in the Maine woods. There he discovers other abducted children, many of whom possess telepathy or telekinesis.
The Institute's staff subject the children to frightening experiments designed to intensify and exploit their abilities. The children are divided between Front Half and Back Half, and those sent to the latter section are rarely seen again. Luke eventually risks escape and tries to expose what is happening inside the facility.
The novel was published by Scribner on September 10, 2019. It is often grouped with King's horror fiction, but it also combines science fiction, thriller elements, government-conspiracy themes and a coming-of-age story. Elevation, Later and Revival are also King novels, but none centers on a secret institution imprisoning gifted children.
