What 2015 endless runner was inspired by Pac-Man's level 256 glitch?
Answer
Pac-Man 256
Answer
Pac-Man 256
The 2015 endless runner inspired by Pac-Man’s Level 256 glitch is Pac-Man 256.
Developed by Hipster Whale, 3 Sprockets, and Bandai Namco Studios Vancouver, Pac-Man 256 turns the original arcade game’s famous technical failure into its central premise. Players move endlessly through a maze while a corrupted, advancing glitch consumes the lower portion of the screen.
The reference is to Level 256 of the 1980 Pac-Man arcade game. Because of an 8-bit level counter, the right side of the maze becomes corrupted when the game reaches that stage, producing a split-screen-like “kill screen.” No ordinary player could realistically reach it without exploiting patterns and extra lives.
Pac-Man 256 was released for iOS and Android on August 19, 2015, during Pac-Man’s 35th-anniversary period. It is sometimes confused with Pac-Man Dash!, another mobile title, but Dash! is a separate side-scrolling runner and is not built around the Level 256 glitch.
