Steven Spielberg’s 1991 film starring Robin Williams as an adult Peter Pan is Hook.
In Hook, Williams plays Peter Banning, a grown-up version of Peter Pan who has forgotten his childhood identity. When Captain Hook kidnaps Peter’s children, Peter returns to Neverland and must recover the imagination and courage associated with his younger self.
The film is a modern continuation of J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan story rather than a straightforward retelling. Dustin Hoffman plays Captain Hook, Julia Roberts plays Tinker Bell, and Bob Hoskins plays Smee. John Williams composed the score, adding another major name to the production’s fantasy pedigree.
The title can be confused with Jumanji because both are Robin Williams fantasy adventures, but Jumanji was not directed by Spielberg and has no Peter Pan storyline. Hook was released on December 11, 1991, and later developed a strong cult following despite mixed contemporary reviews.
