Answer
Treaty of Paris (1783)
The Treaty of Paris (1783) recognized the United States as an independent nation after the American Revolutionary War.
Representatives of Great Britain and the United States signed the treaty in Paris on September 3, 1783. Britain acknowledged the former Thirteen Colonies as free, sovereign, and independent states, formally ending the conflict between the two countries.
The agreement also established boundaries for the new United States, including territory west to the Mississippi River and south to Spanish Florida. It addressed fishing rights, debts, prisoners, and Loyalist property.
The treaty is distinct from the 1783 Treaty of Versailles, which involved Britain, France, and Spain. The Treaty of Paris was ratified by the Confederation Congress on January 14, 1784.
