“Waterfalls” and “Creep” were 1990s hits for the American R&B girl group TLC. The songs appeared on TLC’s second studio album, CrazySexyCool, which was released in 1994.
“Creep,” written and produced by Dallas Austin, became the album’s lead single in October 1994. Its lyrics portray a woman responding to an unfaithful partner, a subject that caused disagreement within the group. “Waterfalls,” released in May 1995, addressed drug dealing, sexual risk, and HIV/AIDS through a cautionary narrative.
TLC consisted of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas. Their blend of R&B, hip-hop, distinctive fashion, and socially aware songwriting made them one of the defining acts of 1990s popular music.
The main mix-up is confusing TLC with fellow female R&B groups such as En Vogue, SWV, or Xscape. Those acts also had major 1990s hits, but “Creep” and “Waterfalls” are specifically associated with TLC.
