Vishnu's Vamana avatar was born to which sage and his wife?
Answer
Kashyapa and Aditi
Answer
Kashyapa and Aditi
Vishnu’s Vamana avatar was born to the sage Kashyapa and his wife Aditi.
In Hindu tradition, Vamana is Vishnu’s dwarf incarnation and the fifth avatar in the Dashavatara sequence. Aditi is the mother of the Adityas, including Indra and other devas, while Kashyapa is one of the great progenitor sages. Vamana is therefore also described as Indra’s younger brother, sometimes under the name Upendra.
The birth story leads into Vamana’s encounter with Mahabali, the powerful daitya king who had conquered the three worlds. Appearing as a small Brahmin, Vamana asked Bali for only three paces of land. He then expanded into Trivikrama and covered the worlds in three strides, restoring them to the devas while granting Bali an honored place in the netherworld.
A common mix-up is confusing Vamana’s parents with those of other divine figures. Dasharatha and Kaushalya are Rama’s parents, while Jamadagni and Renuka are the parents of Parashurama.
