Under what pseudonym did J.K. Rowling publish the Cormoran Strike detective novels?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling published the Cormoran Strike detective novels under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

The first novel, The Cuckoo’s Calling, appeared in 2013 and introduced private detective Cormoran Strike and his temporary secretary, Robin Ellacott. Strike investigates the death of model Lula Landry, and the book was initially presented as the work of a previously unknown author.

The pseudonym became public after a Sunday Times investigation revealed Rowling’s identity. Rowling said that writing as Galbraith allowed her to work without the expectations attached to the Harry Potter name and to receive more independent feedback.

Robert Galbraith is a pen name, not a separate author. The series continued with The Silkworm, Career of Evil, Lethal White, Troubled Blood, The Ink Black Heart, and The Running Grave. The books are crime novels rather than fantasy, with their plots centered on investigations, evidence, and the changing partnership between Strike and Ellacott.
