Under the standard Monopoly board game rules, what happens when a player lands on Free Parking?

The story behind the answer

Under the standard Monopoly board game rules, landing on Free Parking does nothing.

Free Parking is one of the four corner spaces on the classic board. A player who lands there simply places the token on the space and waits for the next turn. The official rules do not award money, property, immunity, or an extra roll.

The popular house rule called the Free Parking jackpot changes this result. Under that rule, taxes and certain fees are placed in the center of the board, and the player landing on Free Parking collects the accumulated money. This rule is widely played but is not part of the official standard rules.

Free Parking is therefore often associated with a large cash prize even though the printed rules assign it no special financial effect. This distinction is one of the best-known differences between official Monopoly play and household variations.
