Thimphu is the capital of which country?
Answer
Bhutan
Answer
Bhutan
Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan.
Located in western-central Bhutan along the Wang Chuu River, Thimphu is the country’s political and administrative center. It contains major national institutions, including government offices, the National Assembly, and the royal government’s central departments.
Bhutan’s former capital was Punakha, a historic valley town that remains the country’s winter administrative center for the central monastic body. Thimphu replaced Punakha as the capital in 1955 and was formally declared the capital of the Kingdom of Bhutan in 1961 during the reign of King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
A common mix-up is confusing Thimphu with Paro, the town best known for Bhutan’s international airport and the nearby Tiger’s Nest monastery. Thimphu is also distinctive for being one of the few national capitals without a traffic-light system; traffic is traditionally directed by uniformed police officers at busy intersections.
