The Red Patch Boys and U-Sector are supporters’ groups for Toronto FC of Major League Soccer. Both groups are associated with the passionate south-stand support that helped establish Toronto FC’s distinctive match-day culture after the club entered MLS in 2007.
The Red Patch Boys were founded in 2006, shortly after Toronto FC’s creation was announced. Their name refers to the “Red Patch Devils,” a nickname associated with the Canadian 1st Infantry Division during the Second World War. The group is primarily associated with sections 111 and 112 at BMO Field.
U-Sector began in 2000 as a supporters’ group for the Toronto Lynx. Its name came from the section U area at Toronto’s old Varsity Stadium. After Toronto FC was founded, the group expanded its main support to the MLS club and became associated with section 113 at BMO Field.
A common mix-up is to treat the two names as alternate names for one organization. They are separate supporters’ groups, although both back Toronto FC and have sometimes coordinated displays and travel.
