Rammstein, the metal band known for "Du Hast," comes from Germany.
The band formed in Berlin in 1994 and is generally associated with Neue Deutsche Härte, a German style combining industrial metal, hard rock, electronic textures, and German-language vocals. Rammstein's name is usually connected with the 1988 Ramstein air-show disaster, although the spelling includes an extra "m."
"Du Hast," released in 1997, became one of the group's international breakthrough songs. Its memorable refrain, heavy guitar sound, and dramatic presentation helped introduce Rammstein's music to audiences far beyond Germany. Lead vocalist Till Lindemann performs the lyrics in German, which has remained an important part of the band's identity.
Rammstein is also famous for theatrical concerts featuring elaborate pyrotechnics, costumes, lighting, and stage effects. The band's core lineup includes Lindemann, guitarists Richard Kruspe and Paul Landers, bassist Oliver Riedel, drummer Christoph Schneider, and keyboardist Christian "Flake" Lorenz. The Netherlands, Sweden, and Austria have strong metal traditions, but Rammstein itself is a German band from Berlin.
