The Hôtel de Soubise in Paris contains the famous Rococo salon called the Salon de la Princesse.

Designed chiefly by Germain Boffrand in the 1730s, the salon formed part of the princess’s apartments on the piano nobile. Its oval plan, flowing curves, gilded woodwork, mirrors, and delicate ornament exemplify the French Rococo’s preference for intimate, elegant interiors over the monumental symmetry of earlier court architecture.

The room’s decorative program includes paintings by Charles-Joseph Natoire depicting episodes from the story of Psyche. Other artists associated with the Hôtel de Soubise interiors include François Boucher and Carle Van Loo. The matching oval salon below belonged to the prince, creating a distinctive paired arrangement.
