The Ferrari F40 supercar was built by a company from Italy. Ferrari is an Italian automaker founded by Enzo Ferrari and headquartered in Maranello, near Modena, in northern Italy.
Ferrari introduced the F40 in 1987 to celebrate the company's 40th anniversary. It was engineered as an uncompromising road car, with a mid-mounted twin-turbocharged V8, rear-wheel drive, lightweight composite body panels, and minimal luxury equipment. The design was created by Pininfarina, while engineer Nicola Materazzi led the technical development.
The F40 was the successor to the Ferrari 288 GTO and the final Ferrari road car personally approved by Enzo Ferrari, who died in 1988. Standard production ran from 1987 to 1993, with special racing derivatives continuing afterward. Although Ferrari is unmistakably Italian, individual F40 components and examples may have been supplied or assembled through specialist partners; that does not change the car's manufacturer or national origin.
