The Nürburgring motor racing circuit is located in Germany.
The Nürburgring sits near the village of Nürburg in Rhineland-Palatinate, in western Germany’s Eifel mountains. It is not one single layout: the complex includes the modern Grand Prix circuit and the famous Nordschleife, or “North Loop.”
The original circuit opened in 1927 and became renowned for its length, blind corners and dramatic elevation changes. Jackie Stewart famously called the Nordschleife the “Green Hell.” The modern Grand Prix circuit opened in 1984 and was built to provide a safer venue for major international racing.
The circuit is often associated with Formula One, but it also hosts endurance races, touring-car events and public “tourist drives.” The Nürburgring 24 Hours uses a combined layout incorporating much of the Nordschleife and the Grand Prix track. It is sometimes confused with Hockenheimring, another famous German circuit that has hosted the German Grand Prix.
