The early Dutch cookbook with an apple-pie recipe was printed in what year?

The story behind the answer

The early Dutch cookbook containing an apple-pie recipe was printed in 1514. It was Een notabel boecxken van cokeryen, an early Dutch-language cookbook printed in Brussels by Thomas van der Noot.

Its recipe describes Appeltaerten, an ancestor of modern Dutch apple pies. The preparation used a pastry crust, soft apples with the skins and seeds removed, and more dough on top. After baking, the recipe gave instructions for working the apples and adding an unusually lavish group of spices, including cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and mace, along with powdered sugar.

The date is sometimes confused with later printed cookbooks or with older English pie recipes. The 1514 date identifies this particular Dutch printed source; it does not claim that apple pie was invented that year. Medieval English collections, including the Forme of Cury, also record earlier apple-pastry preparations.
