The Camargue is the delta region of which river?

The Camargue is the delta region of the Rhône River in southern France. The river reaches the Mediterranean near Arles, where it divides into the Grand Rhône and the Petit Rhône and builds the wetlands known as the Camargue.

This low-lying delta contains lagoons, marshes, salt flats and shifting coastal habitats. It is famous for white horses, Camargue cattle and large populations of flamingos and other waterbirds. The Rhône’s sediment and floods helped create the landscape, although dikes and other engineering now control much of the river’s movement.

A common mix-up is to treat the Camargue as simply a coastal park or a single marsh. It is both a cultural region and a natural delta shaped by the Rhône. The river’s name is often written “Rhône” in French and English reference works; “Rhone” is the same answer without the diacritic.
