The 2026 Open Championship is officially the 154th Open Championship. It is scheduled for 16–19 July 2026 at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England.
The numbering continues the uninterrupted sequence of completed Open Championships, with the exception of cancelled editions such as the events that were not held during the World Wars and the 2020 cancellation during the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2025 Open was the 153rd, making the planned 2026 edition the 154th.
Royal Birkdale will host the championship for the 11th time in 2026. Its previous Open was held in 2017, when Jordan Spieth won after a dramatic final round.
The word “officially” matters because The Open is also commonly called the British Open, especially outside the United Kingdom. Those names refer to the same championship, but the official event name uses “The Open Championship.”
