The 2013 NFC Championship game was aired on Fox. The game was played on January 19, 2014, at Seattle’s CenturyLink Field, where the Seattle Seahawks defeated the San Francisco 49ers 23–17.
Seattle entered as the NFC’s top seed, while San Francisco was the fifth seed. The Seahawks trailed 10–3 at halftime but rallied in the second half. The game became famous for its tense finish, particularly a final pass from Colin Kaepernick intended for Michael Crabtree.
With the 49ers threatening late, Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman deflected the pass, and linebacker Malcolm Smith intercepted it. The play, often called “The Tip” or the “Immaculate Deflection,” preserved Seattle’s lead and sent the Seahawks to Super Bowl XLVIII. They then defeated the Denver Broncos 43–8 for the franchise’s first Super Bowl title. Fox’s Joe Buck and Troy Aikman called the broadcast.
