Taylor Swift's “august” is the eighth track on which 2020 studio album?

The story behind the answer

Taylor Swift's “august” is the eighth track on the 2020 studio album Folklore.

Swift surprise-released Folklore on July 24, 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The album marked a shift toward fictional storytelling, indie folk, dream pop, and subdued alternative arrangements rather than the more autobiographical pop of some of her earlier records.

“august” appears as track eight in the standard album sequence. Its placement is sometimes confused with the song’s role in Folklore’s famous teenage love triangle, because the three connected songs do not appear in narrative order. “cardigan” is track two, “august” is track eight, and “betty” is track fourteen.

The album became Swift’s eighth studio album and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. That award made Swift the first woman to win the category three times, although “august” itself was not the album’s nominated single.
