Suva is the capital of which country?

The story behind the answer

Suva is the capital of Fiji. It is located on the southeast coast of Viti Levu, Fiji’s largest island, and functions as the country’s political, economic, cultural, and administrative center.

Suva is also Fiji’s largest city and a major port. Government buildings, diplomatic missions, universities, businesses, and regional organizations are concentrated there. The city occupies a hilly peninsula around Suva Harbour and Laucala Bay, in an area known for a warm, very wet tropical climate.

Fiji’s capital was not always Suva. In 1877, the colonial administration decided to move the capital from Levuka, on the island of Ovalau, because Levuka’s narrow coastal setting limited expansion. The administrative transfer to Suva became official in 1882.

Suva can be confused with Nadi, another well-known Fijian city. Nadi is a major tourism and aviation gateway near the country’s international airport, while Suva is the national capital and principal governmental center.
