Super Liga was a Mexican football league for women.
The competition was formally known as the Superliga Femenil, with “femenil” meaning women’s or female in Spanish. It was created to provide a national platform for women’s football in Mexico before the country established its modern fully professional top division.
The league began in 2007 and was organized by the Liga Mexicana de Fútbol Femenil. It helped clubs and players develop a more visible competitive structure, although resources, media coverage, and professional support were limited compared with the men’s game.
A frequent mix-up is confusing the Superliga Femenil with Liga MX Femenil. Liga MX Femenil was established in 2016 with backing from Mexico’s top men’s clubs and the Mexican Football Federation, becoming the country’s principal professional women’s league. “Super Liga” in this question points to the earlier women’s competition, not a men’s league or an international tournament.
