Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are the NBA three-point specialists known together as the “Splash Brothers.” The nickname celebrates their extraordinary ability to make long-range shots, especially three-pointers, for the Golden State Warriors.
Curry joined Golden State as the seventh pick in the 2009 NBA draft, while the Warriors selected Thompson 11th overall in 2011. Once Thompson became Curry’s regular backcourt partner, their combined shooting turned the pair into one of basketball’s most celebrated guard duos.
The nickname began gaining traction in 2012 after Warriors website writer Brian Witt used the hashtag “#SplashBrothers” to describe a spectacular shooting performance. It also plays on “Bash Brothers,” the nickname once used by Oakland Athletics baseball stars José Canseco and Mark McGwire.
Curry and Thompson helped Golden State win four NBA championships—in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. They were also the first teammates to make at least 200 three-pointers in five consecutive seasons, underscoring why the nickname became so fitting.
