Saturn’s moon Pandora is one of the shepherd satellites of which ring?

The story behind the answer

Saturn’s moon Pandora is one of the shepherd satellites of Saturn’s F ring.

Pandora orbits just outside Saturn’s narrow F ring, while the moon Prometheus orbits just inside it. Their gravitational influence helps confine and shape the ring’s particles, which is why they are called shepherd satellites. The F ring is notably narrow, braided, and dynamically active compared with Saturn’s broad main rings.

The moon Pandora was discovered in images from the Voyager 1 spacecraft taken in 1980. It is an irregular, heavily cratered body only a few dozen kilometres across. Pandora and Prometheus are sometimes confused because both are small moons associated with the F ring and both have names from Greek mythology. Pandora’s role is not to shepherd the A, B, or E rings; its key relationship is with the F ring. This makes the ring identification a specific fact about Saturn’s intricate satellite system.
