Royal Birkdale is in the rota for The Open and which women's tournament?

Royal Birkdale is in the rota for The Open and the Women’s British Open.

The course became notable for being the first venue from the men’s Open rota to be added to the women’s rota. It has hosted the women’s championship several times, with the event’s history at Birkdale stretching back to 1982.

The Women’s British Open was later branded the Ricoh Women’s British Open and then the AIG Women’s Open. Those are naming changes for the same major championship, so “Women’s British Open” remains the historically recognizable answer used in descriptions of Royal Birkdale’s tournament record.

The other options are separate women’s majors: the Evian Championship is played in France, the Women’s PGA Championship has had various U.S. venues, and the U.S. Women’s Open is organized in the United States. None is the women’s event paired with Birkdale’s Open-rota status.
