Round Table Pizza opened its first restaurant in which California city?

The story behind the answer

Round Table Pizza opened its first restaurant in Menlo Park, California, in 1959.

Founder William R. Larson opened the original restaurant on December 21, 1959, at 1235 El Camino Real. The location later moved a short distance to 1225 El Camino Real, where Larson’s son continued operating it. The restaurant’s name reportedly came from the round redwood tables Larson built with his father.

Menlo Park is sometimes confused with nearby Palo Alto or San Jose because the chain began in California’s South Bay and Peninsula region. However, the company’s documented origin is specifically Menlo Park. Larson’s concept expanded through franchising, and by 1978 Round Table had grown to more than 225 stores. The brand later spread across the western United States.

The chain’s medieval theme also dates to its early years: after a friend sketched King Arthur’s court members eating pizza, Larson adopted the imagery for the restaurants. That theme helped distinguish Round Table from other growing pizza chains.
