Reykjavik, Akureyri and Keflavik are cities in Iceland.
Iceland is a North Atlantic island country situated between Greenland and Norway, just south of the Arctic Circle. Its capital and largest city, Reykjavik, lies on the southwest coast and is the center of the country’s government, culture and economy.
Akureyri is Iceland’s largest town outside the capital region and serves as an important center for northern Iceland. Keflavik, on the Reykjanes Peninsula, is best known internationally for Keflavik International Airport, the country’s main gateway for overseas travelers. The airport is near, but technically separate from, the town of Keflavik.
A common mix-up is confusing Iceland with Greenland: Greenland is geographically closer to North America and is an autonomous territory of Denmark, while Iceland is an independent sovereign country. Iceland is also famous for volcanoes, glaciers, geothermal energy and its settlement-era Norse heritage.
