Residents of Peru are referred to as what?

Residents of Peru are called Peruvians.

“Peruvian” is the standard English demonym for people from Peru, whether referring to citizenship, nationality, or things associated with the country. In Spanish, the corresponding forms are peruano for a man or masculine noun and peruana for a woman or feminine noun; the plural is peruanos or peruanas.

Peruvians are not a single ethnic group. Peru is home to Indigenous peoples including Quechua- and Aymara-speaking communities, as well as people of European, African, Asian, and mixed ancestry. The country’s cultural identity reflects Indigenous civilizations, Spanish colonial history, African and Asian migration, and later national development.

The term should also be distinguished from narrower labels such as “Quechua,” which identifies an Indigenous cultural and linguistic group rather than every resident of Peru. Peruvians live across the coastal desert, Andean highlands, and Amazonian regions, with Lima serving as the country’s largest city and capital.
