Pandora is a moon of which planet?
Answer
Saturn
Answer
Saturn
Pandora is a moon of Saturn. It is a small irregular satellite that orbits near Saturn’s narrow F ring and helps influence the ring’s structure through its gravitational effects.
Voyager 1 images led to Pandora’s discovery in 1980, when scientists identified it as one of Saturn’s previously unknown moons. It was initially designated S/1980 S 26 before receiving the name Pandora from Greek mythology.
Pandora is often discussed together with Prometheus, another small moon near Saturn’s F ring. Their gravitational interactions help confine and shape the ring, making both moons important in studies of ring dynamics. This astronomical Pandora is therefore linked to the myth by name, not by physical characteristics.
The moon is small and irregularly shaped, with a mean radius of roughly 40 kilometres. It is not one of Saturn’s large round moons such as Titan or Rhea, and it should not be confused with the similarly named asteroid 55 Pandora.
