Over which dates was the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend played?
Answer
21–24 August 2026
The 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend was played from 21 to 24 August 2026.
The round began on Friday, 21 August, when Arsenal hosted Coventry City. Six matches followed on Saturday, three were played on Sunday, and the round concluded with Fulham versus Chelsea on Monday, 24 August.
The season started later than a typical Premier League campaign because the 2026 FIFA World Cup took place during the summer. The tournament’s final was scheduled for 19 July, and the league allowed 33 days between that final and the opening match.
The opening weekend contained all 10 first-matchweek fixtures. It was therefore a complete match round rather than a partial set of games spread across several later dates. The full 2026–27 Premier League season is scheduled to finish on 30 May 2027.
