Oracle Corporation was founded in 1977 under which original name?

The story behind the answer

Oracle Corporation was founded in 1977 under the name Software Development Laboratories.

Larry Ellison, Bob Miner, and Ed Oates established Software Development Laboratories in Santa Clara, California. The company’s early work focused on database software, drawing on ideas from a research paper about relational database systems written by IBM researcher Edgar F. Codd.

The company changed its name to Relational Software, Inc. in 1979. It adopted the name Oracle Systems Corporation in 1982, reflecting the growing importance of its database product. The company eventually shortened its name to Oracle Corporation.

The name Oracle is often treated as the original corporate name because it became the famous product and company brand. Historically, however, Software Development Laboratories came first. Oracle’s database business helped make relational database management systems a central part of enterprise computing.
