On which video-game console was Pokémon Stadium released in the West?
Answer
Nintendo 64
Answer
Nintendo 64
Pokémon Stadium was released in the West on the Nintendo 64.
The 1999 strategy game brought Pokémon battles into a polygonal 3D arena. It used the original 151 Pokémon from Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow and included tournament cups, a Gym Leader Castle, and several mini-games.
With the Transfer Pak accessory, players could connect the Nintendo 64 game to compatible Game Boy Pokémon cartridges. This allowed them to upload, organize, and battle with Pokémon raised in the handheld games, making Stadium an important bridge between Nintendo’s home and portable systems.
The title’s history can be confusing because an earlier Japan-only game called Pocket Monsters Stadium appeared in 1998. The Western Pokémon Stadium followed in Japan in 1999 and reached North America, Europe, and Australia in 2000. Its platform, however, was consistently the Nintendo 64.
